CCAN Action Fund Supports D.C. Councilmembers Allen and Nadeau for Bold Climate Leadership
Regional public policy advocacy group speaks out to defend Councilmembers who face unjust and misdirected recall efforts
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) Action Fund is joining the chorus of support for D.C. Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen and Ward 1 Councilmember Brianne Nadeau amidst politically motivated recall campaigns. We recognize the dedication and strong contributions of these two Councilmembers in the fight for clean energy in the District. We are pleased to see climate and community advocates rallying to support these two progressive members of the D.C. Council who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in the District’s transition to a clean energy future.
Naomi Cohen-Shields, DC Campaign Manager at CCAN Action Fund, stated:
“Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) Action Fund is disappointed by and opposes the two current campaigns to recall D.C. Councilmembers Charles Allen and Brianne Nadeau. When there is so much vital work before the Council, these campaigns are a distraction and a disservice to District residents. Both Councilmember Allen and Nadeau have proved themselves to be strong allies to the D.C. climate movement, and we deeply appreciate their work to make the District a healthier, cleaner, and more just place to live.
We strongly support Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen who has been a clean energy champion in D.C. for years. His leadership toward the passage of the Healthy Homes Act and his work holding District agencies accountable have been groundbreaking. CM Allen has been clearly committed to climate and environmental justice for D.C. residents and is leading the way toward a healthy and livable future for D.C. CCAN Action Fund encourages our Ward 6 residents to decline to sign the petition to recall CM Allen.
CCAN Action Fund is also disappointed by the effort to recall Ward 1 Councilmember Brianne Nadeau from office. We deeply value working with CM Nadeau on critical efforts at the Council to advance building electrification and environmental justice, to move the District off methane gas, and to support her work for D.C. residents District-wide.”
