WASHINGTON, DC —Today, the Chesapeake Climate Action Network Action Fund (CCAN Action Fund) announces its endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States.  

The group pointed to Harris’s impressive track record on clean energy and climate justice. As San Francisco’s district attorney, Harris created the office’s first environmental justice unit. As California’s attorney general, she fought against fossil fuel projects and opened an investigation of Exxon Mobil into whether the company misled the public on climate change. As a U.S. senator, she co-introduced legislation on environmental justice and supported the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s goal of shutting down the Dakota Access Pipeline. Her presidential platform in 2020 was very ambitious on climate, supporting a carbon tax and dividend, a ban on fracking, and $10 trillion in public and private climate spending. 

As vice president, she cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of the groundbreaking Inflation Reduction Act, which authorized landmark investments in climate action that she intends to protect and implement as president. The Biden/Harris Administration has done more to fight climate change than any other U.S. administration including: tightening Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations with a goal of reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions; spurring the growth of clean energy manufacturing and clean energy jobs; directing every federal agency to work toward “environmental justice for all”; protecting public lands and waters, restoring U.S. climate leadership on the international stage; and much more. 

Meanwhile, Donald Trump and his allies intend to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act, downsize the EPA, and massively build out fossil fuels in exchange for billions of dollars in campaign contributions.
